The Nigerian inventor building a flying jet car gos is synonymous with heavy traffic and congestion but self taught inventor, Kehinde Durojaiye, might have the answer to the city's woes: a jet car that can run on land, sea and in the air. Durojaiye, nicknamed 'Kenny jet,' calls his ambitious invention 'an aero-amphibious jet car' and he told CNN he has achieved two out of his three goals. Durojaiye told he has traveled as far as Ibadan (84 miles away from Lagos) in his car and claims it can move 120 kilometers per hour on land and at least six knots on the sea. In a sea of Toyotas and Hyundais, Durojaiye's unconventional looking car certainly turns heads. ADVERTISING CARS They can fly, they can swim – but can they walk? Well, this car can. AoKang built a two-seater electric car that is designed to look just like their main product: shoes. Made with real leather, it took the hides of five bulls to make this 10 x 3-foot car. Once laced up, it can travel at speeds up to 20 mph, and distances up to 250 miles. AoKang says it will make 40 more for its stores around China The world-famous Oscar Mayer Wienermobile still makes its rounds.  In fact , you can follow it on Twitter (@Wienermobile). The Oscar Mayer website provides a map giving the current location of every member in the fleet of Wienermobiles. They may not fly or swim, but they sure know how to advertise. The Kia Niro EV Makes the Transition from Concept to Reality   The Kia Niro family of eco-friendly vehicles will soon be complete with the arrival of the electric version to complement the existing hybrid and plug-in hybrid models. Previewed by a concept car a few months ago, the Niro EV appears to be making a quick transition to the showroom floor, and it could go on sale here within the next year to give Kia a competitor to the Chevrolet Bolt EV. The Niro EV seems to share its basic powertrain with the Hyundai Kona Electric , as it has the same size battery pack, at 64.0 kWh. Range estimates are hard to pin down at this point—Kia’s European press release quotes between 236 miles and 280 miles on an unspecified range-calculation metric—but we’d expect the eventual U.S.-spec car to be close to 250 miles, which is the same EPA range figure that Hyundai has said it expects for the Kona Electric. Launching a new car with a special edition has become a habit among premium carmakers. Typically filled to the brim with options, the Edition 1 versions by Mercedes-AMG don’t just offer an attractive package of options, they also come with a specific look and style. Now Mercedes-AMG is using the occasion of the Nürburgring 24-hour race to launch the Edition 1 of the GT63 S 4-Door. The new GT 4-Door already is one of the most stunning sedans out there, and the Edition 1 treatment makes it even more desirable. The Edition 1 package is offered only on the range-topping GT63 S (not on the GT53 or the GT63). That means it comes with the 630-hp variant of the twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V-8, which AMG claims is capable of hurling the GT to 60 mph in a mere 3.1 seconds and on to a top speed of 195 mph. (All versions of the GT 4-Door have 4Matic all-wheel drive as standard equipment.)

  German firm forecasts sales of EVs and plug-in hybrids will top 800,000 a year by 2025 in multi-billion-pound electric push Audi is betting big on electric and plug-in hybrid models, after announcing it expects “around one in three” customers will choose an electrified car within seven years. The firm says every car in its line-up will be available as an electric model by 2025, with most being fully electric vehicles (EVs) and a “smaller proportion” being plug-in hybrids (PHEVs). Audi predicts 800,000 customers will choose one of these ‘e-models’ in 2025; the company sold roughly 1.87 million cars worldwide last year

Ford Motor faces a complete production shutdown of its profit-driving F-150 pickups after a fire at a parts manufacturer. "It is a very fluid situation," company spokeswoman Kelli Felker said Tuesday. A major fire at Meridian Magnesium Products in Eaton Rapids, Mich., on May 2 created an unavoidable disruption. Ford has been working with the die-cast parts manufacturer since the incident. The truck side of the Ford Kansas City Assembly Plant in Missouri shut down this week because of the parts shortage caused by the fire, sending about 3,600 workers home, Felker confirmed. A decision is pending on when or if the Dearborn, Mich., Truck Plant will shut down, which would affect another 4,000 workers.

(Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza gets a 5-speed AMT gearbox) Comparing currently available base models, the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza AMT VDi starts at Rs 8.54 lakh as compared to the Tata Nexon XZA+ that starts at Rs 10.38 lakh and the Mahindra TUV T8 AMT that starts at Rs 10.16 lakh. It is important to note however that while the Mahindra and Maruti offer the AMT gearbox on the mid-variants, the cheapest Nexon diesel AMT available today is on a fully loaded platform. That said, to make it more accessible to the public, Tata Motors is developing a more affordable version of the Nexon AMT on both the diesel and on the petrol models.

(Mahindra TUV300 AMT is the most expensive of the lot) It is also prudent to note here that the Brezza is still available only with a diesel engine and a 5-speed manual or 5-speed AMT gearbox. The Mahindra TUV300 too also gets just a diesel engine while the Tata Nexon gets both a petrol and a diesel motor under the bonnet - both mated with a 6-speed manual or 6-speed AMT.

(The Tata Nexon AMT gets a 6-speed gearbox) Comparing the top of the line models gives a clearer comparison of the price differential between these three rivals. The Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza AMT is still the cheaper car of the lot priced at Rs 10.49 lakh while the Tata Nexon is priced Rs 10,000 more at Rs 10.59 lakh. The Mahindra TUV300 on the other hand is priced at Rs 10.90 lakh, Rs 41,000 more than Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza automatic. Of course, as seen in the table, these top spec models all come with the two tone paint option. The Brezza can be optioned in a white or black roof depending on the body colour, while the Mahindra TUV300 can be optioned with a black roof only. The Nexon on the other hand has a differentiator with its grey roof option.

The Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza is the largest selling SUV in the country and by some margin. So far, it has only had a diesel engine on offer with a 5-speed gearbox, a similar setup as compared to the likes of the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz sedan. Packing a 1.3-litre engine under the bonnet, the Vitara Brezza now gets mated to a 5-speed AMT (automatic) unit too, which makes it an even better proposition, especially for those wanting a sub-compact, sub 4-metre SUV as an urban runabout in start and stop traffic. The Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza automatic though isn't the only AMT in that segment. It will go up against the likes of the Tata Nexon and the Mahindra TUV300 , both of which also get AMT units as compared to a traditional automatic gearbox.

China poised to build its first car in Western Europe China may be poised to build its first car in Western Europe, with the help of Sweden’s Volvo. The iconic brand that was taken over by Chinese  billionaire  Li Shufu, would offer its factory in Gent, Belgium, to build an upscale brand for the tycoon, the Swedish company’s chief executive Hakan Samuelsson said. The Swedish carmaker may also extend its Europe infrastructure -- service and other logistics -- to the brand. Li’s Zhejiang Geely started selling its upmarket compact SUV in China about two months ago under the Lynk & Co brand for a base price of 158,800 yuan (£17,578). Volvo Cars could consider offering the factory to build the model if and when the Chinese company wants to expand to Europe, Samuelsson said in an interview in Hong Kong Wednesday.

Say goodbye to the Competition package and say hello to the Competition; the popular optional bundles for BMW’s M cars have become their own model now. This change starts with  the 2019 M5 Competition, which will be available this summer and adds an extra scoop of power and sportiness to the already highly capable regular model. The Competition model will cost $110,995, a $7400 increase over the base price of the standard 2018 M5. The twin-turbocharged 4.4-liter V-8 engine gets a small bump from the base M5’s 600 horsepower to 617. The power peak also changes, from 5700 to 6600 rpm in the lesser car to exactly 6000 rpm in the Competition. Maximum torque remains at 553 lb-ft and is available from 1800 rpm all the way until 5860 rpm, an increase of 160 revs at the high end. The result, BMW says, is a zero-to-60-mph time that drops by 0.1 second to 3.1 seconds; however, the regular car hit 60 mph in a shocking 2.8 seconds  in our testing , so BMW’s time is likely ...
